The NBA has seen some epic mistakes in its time, but this has to be amongst the biggest.
The great thing about basketball is that it's constant. There is no time to relax. Players have to be focused and ready to play every second of every quarter.
Veteran players around the NBA know that every second is precious in the NBA, but one rookie certainly doesn't.
What was he thinking?
Elfrid Payton of the Orlando Magic showed as much on Sunday as he made what will almost certainly go down as the most embarrassing mistake of the season.
With the ball at mid court, Payton decided to take his time as he assessed his options for what to do next.
- Will Michael Kidd-Gilchrist fix the ugliest shot in the NBA?
- Dirk Nowitzki reveals his favorite Mavericks' shot after setting record
- Kobe Bryant says watching cheetahs helped him perfect favorite shot
But as the video below shows, Payton looked to be lost, confused and in a state of bewilderment at where he was.
Rather than looking up and getting ready to make a pass he kept dribbling.
Phoenix Suns' Gerald Green was having none of it and proceeded to force the easiest steal you will ever see in the NBA. Green then found the paint and dunked to finish off a bizarre sequence in style.
You could say that Payton made a rookie mistake...
