Wilson was selected by United boss Louis van Gaal ahead of Colombian superstar Radamel Falcao for Tuesday night's Premier League clash against Stoke City and produced a confident display in the 2-1 win.
Januzaj, meanwhile, was sent on as a substitute deep into stoppage time. The Belgian winger, who was handed United's coveted No. 11 shirt after Ryan Giggs vacated it at the end of last season, has endured a frustrating campaign under Louis van Gaal and rumours may soon intensify linking him with a loan move away from Old Trafford in the January transfer window.
Nicholas slams Januzaj
Nicholas, however, believes Van Gaal made the right call to leave Januzaj out of his starting line-up in favour of 19-year-old starlet Wilson.
"I like his movement, he has genuine pace. Januzaj has had quite a few chances and not taken them," Nicholas said on Sky Sports. "This lad is more productive. His pace in wide areas gives options. These are the type of home games you can put them in."
Difficult second season
Januzaj was arguably Manchester United's best performer last season, his breakthrough campaign, behind goalkeeper David de Gea. The 19-year-old made 35 appearances in all competitions under David Moyes and Ryan Giggs, but has so far failed to convince Van Gaal of his class.
The winger has only completed two Premier League matches this term and is yet to register a goal or an assist.
It seems increasingly likely that Januzaj will be allowed to leave Old Trafford on a temporary basis when the transfer window re-opens in January - and the teenager will not be short of potential suitors.
Ajax have already expressed their interest. A move to the Eredivisie club, who Van Gaal famously coached earlier in his managerial career, could suit all parties.
But there are many Manchester United supporters hoping Januzaj stays at Old Trafford and is handed more chances to shine in the second half of the season.
