Caroline Wozniacki rumoured to have replaced Rory McIlroy with Ryan Kerrigan

It was almost a year ago that Caroline Wozniacki was proposed to by golfing superstar boyfriend Rory McIlroy, and while it didn't work out between those two, it appears the tennis star is ready to move on with another sportsman.

The 24-year-old attended a charity event recently, and it appeared as though she wasn't alone. American footballer Ryan Kerrigan was constantly by the Dane's side throughout the evening.

There has been no word from either party on Twitter, despite the duo's regular use of the social networking site. However, according to onlookers from the charity function, Wozniacki and Kerrigan spent a lot of time together at their table.

Kerrigan is 26-years-old and plays for the Washington Redskins in the NFL, he signed a contract extension with the club earlier this year worth around $7 million

It's unclear how the pair met, but Woznaicki has spent a large amount of time in the United States recently. Her on-court season ended at the WTA Finals last month but, a week or so later, the former world no.1 was running the New York Marathon - also for charity - to an impressive time.

Speculation involving Wozniacki's personal life has been rife ever since she started dating McIlroy; the pair were one of sport's highest-profile partnerships for some time.

Their relationship consequently ended in the public eye as well. It has been well reported that the golfer called cancelled the wedding and called time as a couple having already sent out the wedding invites.

In the weeks following the split, Wozniacki was supported, very publicly, by fellow tennis star and friend Serena Williams. They spent time partying in Miami together after both were eliminated early from the French Open.

Results soon improved for Wozniacki, however. She reached just her second Grand Slam final, again at the US Open, in the Autumn but, ironically, it was Serena who walked away with the trophy in a comfortable win. Nonetheless it must have healed some of the pain for Wozniacki from her split, especially considering McIlroy has also been in the form of his life as a single man.

We're unlikely to hear how the potential Wozniacki/Kerrigan relationship progresses in the coming weeks. The Danish star has flown out to Singapore to join her International Premier Tennis League team, the 'UAE Royals', where she play alongside the likes of Noavk Djokovic and Marin Cilic.

Who knows if they're on each other's Christmas lists?....
