The 32-year-old, who is training with the Red Devils amid speculation that Louis van Gaal will sign him on a permanent contract, was spotted being put through his paces alongside United’s first-choice goalkeeper David de Gea and other members of the senior squad on Friday.
Reports on the continent earlier this week claimed that Manchester United will officially announce the signing of Valdes next month, while Marca revealed this weekend that the Spaniard will receive a major financial boost by joining the Red Devils.
Permanent deal looking likely
United confirmed that Valdes was in training with them back in October. The experienced ‘keeper, who won a host of major honours with Barcelona during his 12 years as a professional at the Camp Nou, was invited to Manchester by Van Gaal to complete his rehabilitation from the serious knee injury that scuppered his planned move to AS Monaco in the summer.
Van Gaal has refused to confirm whether or not Manchester United will sign free agent Valdes on a permanent contract, but the fact he has spent the past few weeks at Carrington suggests there’s every chance of a deal being completed over the coming weeks.
De Gea speculation
The Red Devils will continue with De Gea as their number one goalkeeper, regardless of whether Valdes signs, although the Spain international only has 18 months left on his current contract - and speculation claiming Real Madrid will make a formal offer for the classy 24-year-old in the summer continues to intensify.
