There’s not long left until the fourth NXT special event of the year, and R Evolution will see Adrian Neville defend his NXT Championship against Sami Zayn in the main event.
Also on the night, we have Charlotte putting her NXT Women’s Championship on the line against Sasha Banks whilst The Lucha Dragons also defend their titles, as The Vaudevillians attempt to become the new NXT Tag Team Championships.
In the fourth and final match of the evening, The Ascension will look to bring down the team of Hideo Itami and Finn Balor.
At the moment there are only four matches announced for the event, whereas previous events have had around six or seven matches. This means that R Evolution should see longer matches but all eyes will be on the highly anticipated debut of Kevin Owens.
There’s a chance that Owens could debut on the event by cutting a promo, or there’s a chance he will be allowed to showcase his dominance in a squash match – perhaps CJ Parker will be the victim.
Along with the Kevin Owens debut, other notable absentees include Baron Corbin, Tyler Breeze, Tyson Kidd and Bull Dempsey; all of whom could be thrown into last minute matches on the evening.
Here’s what I think will go down at NXT Takeover: R Evolution.
NXT Tag Team Championships – The Lucha Dragons © vs. The Vaudevillians
This is perhaps the most underwhelming match of the night, which only highlights how strong this four match card actually is because all four men are fantastic workers. The only problem is that The Lucha Dragons haven’t really made the impact like previous champions such as Luke Harper & Erick Rowan and The Ascension.
I highly doubt the NXT hierarchy have lost faith in Sin Cara and Kalisto and they should be given more time as champions, and even though Simon Gotch and Aiden English could be better champions, this time I believe The Lucha Dragons will retain the NXT Tag Team Championships.

The Ascension vs. Hideo Itami and Finn Balor
It’s only a matter of time before The Ascension make the jump to the main roster and after the rumours that their video package is ready to air – it’s safe to say that The Ascension won’t be sticking around on NXT for much longer. This is the perfect opportunity for Balor and Itami to show off their incredible talent and continue to build themselves up as a solid tag team before going their separate ways, I can see this only going one way and I expect Hideo Itami and Finn Balor to defeat The Ascension.
NXT Women’s Championship – Charlotte © vs. Sasha Banks
This past week on Monday Night Raw we were treated to a match between Charlotte and Natalya and even though she lost, Charlotte looked very comfortable in the ring with such a larger audience, and I have no doubts whatsoever that she’ll be able to hold her own on the main roster.
At the same time, Sasha Banks has proven she is capable of leading the NXT divas division and is more than ready to be the champion, Charlotte is a huge asset to the main roster which is why I think Sasha Banks will dethrone Charlotte at R Evolution.
NXT Championship – Adrian Neville © vs. Sami Zayn
Sami Zayn has the most to lose in this match, telling the NXT Universe he will leave NXT if he loses to Neville – but that doesn’t mean he won’t join up with the main roster.
Both men are more than ready for the main roster, but at the same time they would be huge losses to NXT which is why I think the loser of this match will be the first to go to the main roster, I think a second new championship will be crowned and Sami Zayn will finally become the NXT Champion.
As for Kevin Owens, who knows what his role will be but it’s no secret that the WWE would want to utilise his friendship and rivalry with Sami Zayn from their Ring of Honor days, so it won’t be too surprising to see Owens play a role in the outcome of the main event and be inserted into the title picture right away.
