Arsenal have been sounded out as a potential destination for Mattia Destro after AS Roma gave the forward's agent permission to find him a new club in January. (London Evening Standard)
The 23-year-old's representatives have already been in touch with Arsene Wenger to discuss the possibility of moving to the Emirates in the New Year.
Roma value the Italy international at around £15 million, but it remains to be seen whether the Gunners make an offer, given the wealth of attacking options already available.
With defensive and midfield reinforcements the main priority for Arsenal in the mid-season window, a prospective deal for the Serie 'A' striker at this stage seems unlikely.
But, with question marks still surrounding the respective futures of Lukas Podolski and Joel Campbell, there could be an opening for the Italian in north London.
Arsenal have been mooted as admirers of the talented star, who commented favourably on reports linking him with a move to the Premier League giants back in November.
"Arsenal for me? The rumours are good, I'm happy for them. This is the proof that I'm doing my work well," he explained in an interview with Tuttosport.
"There are so many things that I can improve on. I must never stop and continue to learn new things.
"The coach encourages me a lot, he is teaching me some things, and I try to show my skills on the pitch, as well as the confidence he has in me."
