Alen Halilovic. If you don’t know that name by now then you should be disgusted with yourself.
I’m joking, don’t worry. If you don’t know that name by now then you probably have little interest in the comings and goings of FC Barcelona, and you’re probably not clued in with the prodigal players currently making their names in the rank of arguably the world’s biggest club.
It’s nothing to be sneered at, and all the fans out there who have never heard of Halilovic can rest assured that before too long they will have. The Croatian wonderkid, who has been likened to Lionel Messi in the past, caused quite the storm prior to the start of this term through his attention-grabbing exploits both for Dinamo Zagreb and the Croatia national side.
Now just 18 Halilovic, who became the youngster player to ever represent his national team at the age of 16 in 2013, has yet to play for Barcelona’s senior side. That doesn’t mean he’s not making waves in certain other teams at the club.
Earlier this week the diminutive playmaker caused quite the stir when he scored a goal which will certainly go down as one of his best to date for Barcelona B. The Catalan reserve team claimed victory over high-flying Girona in the Spanish Segunda Division, and the solitary goal was an absolute beat.
Using guile that is sure to have people backing the theory that he is indeed capable of becoming ‘the Croatian Messi’, Halilovic took the ball from around his halfway-line, skipped past a challenge from an opposing defender and struck a pearl of a shot off of his left-foot into the top corner.
In truth there’s only so much lyrical waxing I can do without you seeing first-hand just how impressive the strike was. So without further ado click the link below to watch it.
