Manchester United have received a huge boost in their alleged pursuit of Martin Montoya after the Barcelona defender's agent hinted that he will ask to leave Camp Nou in January. (Daily Star)
Red Devils boss Louis van Gaal has been linked with a host of different defensive acquisitions, and was even credited with an interest in the Spaniard's Barca team-mate Gerard Pique.
However, after Pique made clear he would not be returning to Old Trafford, the Premier League giants have now turned their attention to 23-year-old Montoya.
Arsenal and Liverpool have also been mooted as admirers of the player that has so far struggled to cement his place in Luis Enrique's first-team, but it's Manchester United that are believed to be favourites to secure the right-back's signature.
Montoya made 19 appearances for Barcelona last season but has been restricted to one solitary game this term, so he might fancy his chances of more regular action in Van Gaal's team as a replacement for Rafael on the right flank.
