It's time for us to take a look at another memorable sporting highlight from 2014 as we countdown to the number one moment of the year, which will be announced on New Year's Eve.

In at number 16 is LeBron James' sensational home coming, the NBA superstar opting against a new deal with the Miami Heat in favor of a return to the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Endless speculation

With the Miami Heat having been denied a coveted three-peat of NBA Finals wins after losing to the San Antonio Spurs, the entire NBA offseason was dominated by rumor and speculation concerning LeBron's future plans.

With his every move having been put under the microscope for weeks, the four-time NBA MVP finally put an end the constant debate when, on July 11, he announced to the world that he would be signing with home-state team the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Emotional return

Unlike in 2010, when he came under intense criticism for announcing his decision to leave the Cavs for the Miami Heat via a specially scheduled TV show, James opted to pen an open letter with Sports Illustrated explaining the motivations behind his move.

Citing his relationship with the city and franchise, as well as putting on record his gratitude to the Miami Heat organization after a very successful four year period, James laid it all on the line in order to reconcile a fractured relationship with Cavaliers fans.

With the Cavaliers suddenly catapulted up the NBA power rankings LeBron James is under no illusion that he is expected to lead his team to the summit of the NBA this season. If he does that then expect the victory parade to be one of 2015's top sporting moments.
