The Philadelphia Eagles have seen their playoff aspirations dented over the past couple of weeks, consecutive defeats in high-pressure games seeing them slip from divisional leaders to playoff hopefuls.
During this time Mark Sanchez, after initially impressing in the role of deputy to injured starter Nick Foles, has struggled mightily to get the Eagles offense to reach their maximum potential.
As such, many Eagles fans had been hoping that Foles would be ready to return to the starting line up for the franchise's crucial Week 16 contest against the Washington Redskins. They were dealt a blow today though when it was confirmed that Foles would not be fit to participate in the much win game, leaving Philadelphia's playoff hopes firmly in the hands of the unpredictable Mark Sanchez.
Philadelpha Eagles head coach Chip Kelly confirmed the news during his media obligations on Monday, revealing that Nick Foles is yet to be cleared to play as he bids to bounce back from a broken collarbone suffered in Week 9.
There remains a chance that Foles could return to the gridiron for the Eagles' Week 17 match up against the New York Giants. By that point though the Eagles', and Sanchez, may have played themselves out of contention for the postseason.

The Eagles currently sit on a 9-5 record after losing to divisional rivals the Dallas Cowboys on SNF - a loss that saw them slip out of the playoff picture as it stands.
Likely now needing two victories to give them a chance of returning to the fold, Chip Kelly and co will be hoping for better from the much maligned Mark Sanchez.
After a Week 14 performance that saw him unable to find the answers against a tough Seahawks outfit - throwing one interception and just 96 yards - Sanchez threw two picks, was sacked four times and managed no TD passes against the Cowboys.
