Newcastle United are set to appeal to the Premier League for permission to bring in a goalkeeper on an emergency loan deal.

With Tim Krul and Rob Elliot already ruled out until the New Year, rookie Jak Alnwick joined the growing list after injuring his shoulder during the heavy defeat inflicted by Tottenham Hotspur in the Capital One Cup on Wednesday evening.

That leaves them just with 17-year-old Freddie Woodman, but it is understood Alan Pardew is reluctant to play him in the Tyneside derby against Sunderland at the weekend.
