Manchester United have been in fantastic form as of late; the Manchester side have won their last six matches, their most recent victory against struggling rivals Liverpool.
The Independent revealed Wayne Rooney is feeling positive about his club's chances of bringing the Premier League title back to Old Trafford. The English international said: “I think we have to believe we can win the title, we are eight points behind and coming into a busy period."
The prolific forward continued: "If we can win our games and the others have one bad result then there is nothing there. We have been here before but we have a lot of new players and this is where the experience of myself, Michael Carrick and Darren Fletcher can rub off on the other players.
"We have to keep winning our games and hopefully get back to the top and you never know."
Why it can happen
Many fans around the globe may interpret this as ridiculously optimistic, but it is definitely a possibility. They sit in third position, just eight points behind league leaders Chelsea with 22 league matches remaining.
Despite winning their last six matches, Manchester United still haven't hit their peak form so far this season, in fact they have been quite fortunate in a number of fixtures this season, notably against Arsenal and Southampton where they were dominated throughout.
Despite their lucky fortunes, United have still managed to achieve the three points in those games even though they weren't great performances. This shows that Manchester United are still grinding out decent results even though they haven't been at their best, so if United get into stride and rediscover their best form, they could very well be hard to stop.
So far this season Manchester United's stand out player has been Spanish goalkeeper David De Gea, who has been exceptional so far, particularly in matches against Merseyside clubs Everton and Liverpool. Aged just 24, De Gea is already considered amongst the world's best goalkeepers.
United may have their defensive problems but their attack is one of the best in the world too, they boast the likes of Angel Di Maria, Wayne Rooney, Robin Van Persie and Juan Mata.
Falcao and Di Maria
Although Radamel Falcao has failed to make an impact at United, in recent weeks forwards Wayne Rooney and Robin Van Persie have both been very impressive and they look to continue their good form.
Juan Mata is another player who has rediscovered some of his best form recently, it was just over a month ago when it seemed his United career was close to an end.
With Argentine maestro Di Maria set to return from injury this week, Manchester United can only get better and who knows, if United find their stride they may be the ones lifting the trophy on the final day of the season.
