John Cena is the WWE's top star. Love him or hate him, John Cena earns more money than any other WWE superstar because he brings in the most amount of money for the wrestling company.
Vince McMahon loves John Cena's money making ability, especially Cena's ability to make money in the youth market. Since WWE went PG, Cena's merchandise sales have rocketed, but his reputation has also plummeted amongst hardcore wrestling fans.
There are plenty of fans in the WWE Universe that feel the time is ripe for John Cena to make a heel turn. Some feel that Cena's character has become stale and no longer entertaining. The fact that Cena has had so many WWE title reigns is an example of the lack of depth of WWE talent at the moment, but WWE legend Stone Cold Steve Austin insists it's not Cena's fault. The lack of talent means it's hugely important that Cena's character remains the same as one of WWE's few solid wrestlers they can always rely on.
Not John Cena's fault
John Cena has single handedly monopolised the WWE in recent years, but it's not his fault that the talent amongst other wrestlers has not been high enough for the WWE to give their character's more of a push, with Austin sympathising with Cena's situation.
"Coming from a guy who has been on top in the business, what John Cena is doing is having a hellacious career," Steve Austin revealed on his podcast this week.

"You've got the people who just hate him but you've got to understand. Everybody is more than entitled to their opinions but until you've at least been in some of those shoes your opinion is what it is, probably an unqualified opinion, but it's heartfelt so it's your opinion."
John Cena's legacy damaged
But even though Austin defended John Cena on his podcast this week, he does feel that Cena's legacy will forever be affected by the lack of a real threat to his throne as the WWE's top dog. Stone Cold always had The Rock to battle against during the prime years of his career, but nobody has even come close to matching Cena's popularity.
"Now, I'm a little dismayed that he hasn't had a serious threat to come out there and try to knock him off," Austin added. "But again, that's not on John, that's on the fact that no one has come close to knocking him off his perch yet."
The other side of the coin
However, there will be an array of fans that disagree with Stone Cold Steve Austin's comments. It's somewhat surprising that Austin would come out with such quotes about Cena, especially when you consider that WWE legend Hulk Hogan came out a few months ago and urged Cena to turn heel to allow other WWE stars to gain more popularity.
But what do you think WWE fans? Is John Cena to blame for the lack of top WWE talent? Does John Cena need to turn heel? Leave your thoughts in the comments box below.
