Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has revealed that goalkeeper Victor Valdes could join Liverpool, reports the Daily Star.
Valdes has been training with the Red Devils as he steps up his fitness regime after picking up a cruciate knee injury whilst playing for Spanish giants Barcelona earlier this year.
And, with the player seemingly closing in on a return to first-team action, reports have claimed that the Spaniard will sign a deal with Manchester United as he looks set to go head-to-head with his fellow international David de Gea for a place in the club's starting XI.
The latest twist, however, is that he could still join United's fierce rivals Liverpool, who are in desperate need of improvement in the goalkeeping department.
Belgian star Simon Mignolet has endured a torrid time on Merseyside throughout the campaign so far, and was even dropped for the Reds' showdown with United at Old Trafford this past weekend.
And now, despite currently being involved with the Manchester United set-up, it appears that Valdes could yet complete a move to Liverpool.
Speaking to reporters ahead of United's clash with Aston Villa tomorrow afternoon, Van Gaal said: "It's only talk from you. Not from us, not from Valdes, only the media. I'm not here to inform the media.
"You have to wait and listen and see.
"If Liverpool are interested, he goes to Liverpool. The media are suggesting and that's a big mistake. That's why I'm always angry because you are inventing stories. There are no stories.
"He is training here. I give him the possibility to do that. We shall see."
New Year club
Valdes' long term future clearly remains in some doubt, but it's certainly expected that he will sign for a club in the New Year.
Manchester United's immediate attention, however, will turn to their Premier League showdown with Aston Villa tomorrow afternoon. The Red Devils will be desperate to secure all three points at Villa Park as they go in search of picking up their seventh league win in a row.
