Reports have emerged that link Manchester City star Matija Nastasic with a shock exit. Roberto Mancini brought Nastasic to the Etihad Stadium in the summer of 2012 and is thought to be interested in renewing his interest in the defender, according to the Daily Mail.
Schalke and AC Milan are said to be leading the chase for the Citizens defender. Nastasic joined his Manchester City team-mates on their Christmas party in Manchester on Wednesday night before their Premier League game against Crystal Palace at the weekend.
The 21-year-old defender is thought to be surplus to requirements at the Etihad where competition is high for places in the starting line up. The defender has found himself behind Vincent Kompany, Martin Demichelis and Equilem Mangala in the pecking order.
Nastasic joined Manchester City as part of a deadline day transfer to the Premier League side in a move worth €15 million, excluding the value of Stefan Savić who was given to Fiorentina as part of the exchange.
The defender signed a five-year contract with Manchester City which ends on 30 June 2017
Inter Milan coach and former City boss Mancini is reportedly a keen admirer of Nastasic but it is their city rivals AC Milan and Schalke who are thought to be the favourites to sign the defender. Nastasic is expected to be available for around £10 million.
Manuel Pellegrini is likely to reshuffle his squad during the January transfer window. The Blues are in the midst of a striker crisis after Sergio Aguero picked up a knee injury in City's 1-0 victory over Everton and Edin Dzeko and Stevan Jovetic injuries have left the club without an established striker.
