Manchester United's winning run came to an end at Villa Park this afternoon after they were held 1-1 by Aston Villa.

Paul Lambert's side took the lead in fine fashion early on as Belgian international Christian Benteke produced a remarkable strike to beat the unmoved David de Gea in the Manchester United goal.

United attempted to dictate the play throughout the first-half, but failed to make the most of their strong possession.

As United started the second-half strongly, they found an equalising goal after winger Ashley Young beat his man down the left hand side to find Colombian striker Radamel Falcao, who netted with a fine header.

Forward Gabriel Agbonlahor was controversially sent-off for Villa with 20 minutes to go after he went flying in on former teammate Ashley Young. In truth, the straight red looked fairly soft, as United were handed the advantage.

Ultimately, though, it was an advantage that United couldn't make the most of as they failed to create many chances in the final period of the game. The Red Devils will now look to get back to winning ways on Boxing Day when they play host to Newcastle United.
