At 3-12, it has been a horrendous season for the New York Jets and their upcoming off-season will be crucial.
Many expect to see Head Coach Rex Ryan axed in the off-season and the future of General Manager John Idzik also hang in the balance.
When the team are struggling like the Jets are, it is expected that the fans and media speculate about a change of coaching, but it is also expected that the players support their coach.
That has been the case with several Jets players already this season, but the teams starting Quarterback isn't one of them.
Geno Smith has himself had a horrendous year after starting the season as the teams starter then losing his place to Michael Vick before regaining it shortly after.
- Ex-Jets CB's explosive comments leave Ryan in perilous position
- Cam Newton starts a fight between two Carolina Panthers fans
- Baltimore Ravens Steve Smith gives the fans a big insult
Smith has had a year to forget as he has been booed by his own fans, thrown 13 interceptions for just 10 touchdowns and also been caught giving the Jets fans the finger.
It has been dark days in New York for Smith but he has now come out to share his slightly controversial thoughts on the head coaching situation.
"A change could be good for us all, so if it happens -- when it happens -- then we'll see." - Geno Smith on a change of head coach
Smith is certainly making a bold statement as there are undoubtedly those out there who feel that along with a new head coach, the Jets need a new Quarterback?
With a 3-12 record right now, the Jets are primed for a high draft pick next year and with them only one game ahead of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Tennessee Titans, its not impossible that they could be in with a shot at the number one overall pick.
A change of engine or pilot?
Obvious aviation puns aside, the big question is do the Jets need a new coach or some new players, or both?
That will be a question for another day but the fans have certainly made their feelings known numerous times this year.
We've seen the Jets fans chant that they want Vick whilst Smith has been leading the team on the field.
The fans have demonstrated their disapproval of Idzik by hiring a plane to fly over head with a message to the struggling GM trailing it.
Jets fans are clearly unhappy with the entire set up of their team right now and it will be interesting to see what happens in New York in the upcoming off-season.
