Serie A side AS Roma are set to make a renewed approach for Tottenham centre-back Vlad Chiriches, according to talkSPORT.
The Romanian captain has struggled for game time under new Spurs head coach Mauricio Pochettino this season, with new signing Federico Fazio partnering Jan Vertonghen in the first choice starting XI, and club captain Younes Kaboul now deputising along with England U21 international Eric Dier.
At 25, Chiriches should be playing regular first-team football but in his few appearances for the Lilywhites this season the ex-Steaua Bucharest player has fallen way short of the level expected of a €9million signing.
His lowlights include hauling down Demba Ba for a penalty in the final minutes of the Europa League tie between Besiktas and Tottenham at White Hart Lane.
Ba scored the resultant penalty to secure a valuable point that eventually led to the Turkish team topping the group ahead of Spurs.
Chiriches was part of the influx of largely underwhelming signings made thanks to the Gareth Bale money and has never really made it in London. At times accomplished on the ball, he is also susceptible to a horrendous error and at six foot tall he is not commanding enough in the air for a centre-back.
His limited game time this season has been largely at right-back, a situation that will cease with Kyle Walker's return to fitness and the imminent arrival of DeAndre Yedlin from Seattle.
Pochettino will be key to free up space in his first team squad, and the only factor that would appear to stop a move away from White Hart Lane would be money, with Daniel Levy always looking to avoid any loss on player transaction.
