From December 1st until December 25th, one goal will be presented each day. The goals in the calendar have all been scored within the since January 1st this year.
The goals have been picked out by a jury of three people after a thorough review of the football year.
Rated as the second best goal of 2014 is Robin van Persie's unbelievable header against Spain during the World Cup this summer.
Throughout this entire sequence, everything is completed to absolute perfection. Daley Blint's pass is impeccable, not to talk about Van Perise's finish. Fantastic timing and creativity, and a very intelligent solution. Scoring like this is extremely difficult, which is why we rarely see anything like it.
Most players wouldn't go for the lob-header, simply because it might not be the easiest way to finish. For Van Persie, though, who is a veteran when it comes to scoring beautifully, it may have seemed like a convenient way to do it.
At the point when this goal was scored, Spain were up by one, and there was only seconds remaining of the first half. There's a large difference between going to half time while level, compared to doing it while behind, and therefore, the significance of this goal increases even further.
In hindsight, it's easy to diminish the goal by stating that Spain had a dreadful World Cup. This is true, however, at the time when Van Persie scored, they were the reigning champions, and they had got off to fine start to this championship as well.
In summary, this goal has just about everything.
