Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic has insisted that the Premier League giants can win an unprecedented quadruple. The ambitious Matic has set his sights on the record books in his first full season in the Premier League since rejoining Chelsea from Benfica for a deal worth £21m.
This is Matic's second spell at Chelsea, who the defensive midfielder originally joined from MFK Košice before being moved on to Portuguese club Benfica in a swap deal for Brazilian centre back David Luiz.
Back on English soil the Serbian is keen to make an impact this time by helping this star-studded Chelsea squad match their potential by winning silverware. No club has won the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup and League Cup in the same season, could the Blues really be the first to make it happen?
The Premier League leaders are in the Capital One Cup semi-finals, the last 16 of the Champions League and have yet to start their FA Cup campaign.
Matic told BBC Sport: " I think it's possible. We have a chance.I don't want to say that we're going to but we're going to try. We have quality. I am confident, I believe in my team, my team-mates, so everything is possible."
Mourinho attempts to play down expectations
Despite the obvious confidence of Matic and team-mates, Chelsea boss, Jose Mourinho has choosen to play down Chelsea's chances of a quadruple. "We don't speak about it," he said. "We have our feet on the ground."
Chelsea are set to play West Ham at home on Boxing Day in the Premier League, before they meet Championship side Watford at home in the FA Cup third round.
In the Champions League they will hope to match the feat they achieved in 2012 as they are drawn against Paris St-Germain in the last 16 of the competition. Chelsea also have the League Cup semi-finals to look forward to as they face Liverpool for a chance at silverware.
