Ander Herrera is expected to be fit and ready to play some part in Manchester United’s New Year’s day fixture against Stoke City, according to the Daily Mirror.

Coincidentally it was the December 2 clash against The Potters which saw the Spaniard pick up the injury, and he’s been out of action since.

Now though it’s believed the 25-year-old is ready to hand Louis van Gaal a huge injury boost, and he is expected to make his return against Mark Hughes’s side on Thursday.

United’s 0-0 draw with Tottenham Hotspur this weekend was their ninth Premier League game without defeat, but following the injury to Antonio Valencia the squad finds itself struggling to deal with the problems.

As such Van Gaal will readily welcome Herrera back into the fold, and with the clash at the Britannia Stadium sure to be a fiery affair, the added presence will be much needed.

Van Gaal

Van Gaal himself has made no secret of his dislike for the busy period surrounding Christmas, and with his squad having been riddled with injury since the beginning of the campaign he’ll have every right to hope that Thursday’s game doesn’t bring him anymore selection headaches.
