Arsenal lead the race to sign new Luis Suarez

Published Add your comment

Arsenal are leading the race to sign Uruguayan hotshot Kevin Mendez after Arsene Wenger made a formal approach for the teenage striker. The 18-year-old has also attracted interest from Premier League rivals Manchester United, but it's the Emirates Stadium that would be Mendez's preferred destination. Gunners scouts have been keeping tabs on the talented youngster for some time, and have witnessed the Penarol starlet flourish in his homeland in both domestic and youth international football. Former Liverpool striker Luis Suarez has tipped his compatriot to have a bright future in the game, so Arsenal fans should be excited about the prospect of Mendez moving to north London. After bursting onto the scene at the FIFA U17 World Cup last year, Mendez has received admiring glances from a host of suitors, and despite Penarol's reluctance to sell they could be forced to cash-in if a big-money offer is made in January.
