As the inaugural WWE World Heavyweight Champion there is always some form of speculation surrounding Randy Orton, but now it seems The Royal Rumble will be the next possible place for The Viper to return.
The former World Champion left WWE back in November after The Authority turned on him to write him off TV so that he could film The Condemned 2 with WWE studios.
He was then set to return at Survivor Series to gain revenge on The Authority and help Team Cena win and put them out of action, but instead Sting arrived and had a more lasting effect on the WWE Universe.
Randy Orton was then not heard from for a while, with him tweeting pictures of his vacation and going hiking with his partner. This made sense because whilst Seth Rollins was in a feud with John Cena there was no place for Orton to make his return to begin a rivalry with Mr Money in the Bank.
Cena and Rollins' feud now looks to be continuing into the New Year after Rollins forced the former World Champion to bring back The Authority Monday night on Raw.
It was reported yesterday that Randy Orton is suffering from a deviated septum, this is why he has been working minimally at house shows and just doing run ins when needed. It also explains why WWE are yet to bring him back to TV, because he is scheduled to have surgery on his nose some time soon. The recovery time is only a few weeks, meaning The Viper could still make The Royal Rumble.
With Daniel Bryan and Roman Reigns the only two announced names already in the 30-man battle royal, then surprise entrants will be top of the bill for WWE this year and Orton could make his return and eliminate all members of The Authority to gain revenge in some form.
The Authority wouldn't bring Randy Orton back themselves after Triple H ordered Seth to "take him out" so any return would have to see Orton seeking revenge on The Authority and it could lead to an interesting Road to Wrestlemania if Orton does come back as a face character.
