Wojciech Szczesny is losing his Arsenal form because he is madly in love with his girlfriend Marina Luczenko, reports Polish newspaper Fakt.
The tabloid believes Arsenal's first choice goalkeeper was so disastrously out of sorts against Southampton on New Year's Day because he is too distracted by the Polish beauty.
Szczesny, 24, was at fault for both goals as the Gunners slipped to a 2-0 defeat against fellow top four contenders Southampton last week. After David Ospina impressed against Hull City in the FA Cup, some are now tipped Arsene Wenger to drop Szczesny for the game against Stoke City.
While Szczesny has been reliable for the past 18 months, the performance against Southampton, coupled with Ospina's return from injury, could see him dropped from the first team for the first time since March 2013.
Wenger withdrew Szczesny from a Champions League tie against Bayern Munich suggesting at the time that the goalkeeper had been "mentally affected" by the number of games he had been playing.
His compatriot Lukasz Fabianski started in his place but Ospina is proving to be a much more worthy competitor for the first choice spot. The Colombian was very impressive at the World Cup and looked assertive in Sunday's FA Cup third round tie against Hull City.
Szczesny will have to find his form quickly if he is to maintain his spot between the Emirates Stadium goal posts. But will he be able to regain his focus?
The problem, according to the Polish tabloid mentioned above, is that Szczesny is madly in love with his singer/songwriter/actress girlfriend and is failing to concentrate on his football as a result.
Together the pair make quite the celebrity couple in their native country so it is no surprise to see a tabloid speculating about their ongoing romance. Should Szczesny's bad form continue, however, there may be more to this story than it first seems.
For those wondering, Szczesny's girlfriend is quite a prolific Instagram user and regularly treats fans to an insight to her life with the Arsenal star.
