Petr Cech given green light to join AS Roma

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has made a shock U-turn regarding the future of veteran goalkeeper Petr Cech according to reports.

The Blues boss was adamant that the Czech international would not be leaving Stamford Bridge in January, especially with third-choice 'keeper Mark Schwarzer set to join Leicester City on a six-month loan until the end of the season.

However, according to reports, Mourinho has changed his way and is now willing to let the 32-year-old leave the club this month, with Italian side AS Roma in pole position to land him.

Cech's future has been a hot topic ever since the summer transfer window after the long-serving shot-stopper was told by Mourinho that he would no longer be Chelsea's number-one, being replaced by Thibaut Courtois.

The young Belgium, who spent three years out on loan at Atletico Madrid, was given the number-one jersey by Mourinho ahead of the season, and despite being dropped to the bench, Cech made the decision to stay in West London to fight for his place.

However, halfway through the season, Cech has failed to break back into the first-team, only featuring in cup matches or when Courtois has been injured, leaving him frustrated at the club.

In recent months, both Courtois and Schwarzer have made public comments about how frustrated Cech is at the club, and it now looks like he is set to leave.

Cech has been monitored by Premier League sides Arsenal and Liverpool, whom are both on the look out for new 'keepers due to the lack of form with Wojciech Szczesny and Simon Mignolet respectively - but it looks like Serie A is the destination for the Czech stopper.

Roma has also been monitoring Cech since the Summer and despite their number-one recently signing a new deal at the club, Rudi Garcia is still keen on bringing Cech to the club due to his experience and his ability.

A well respected Portuguese journalist tweeted the other day about Cech's future and stated that after holding talks with Mourinho, the shot-stopper has been given permission to leave the club.

Goncalo Lopes wrote: "Mourinho accepted Petr Cech departure. Negotiations with AS Roma. The deal can be done in the next days."
