Chelsea youngster Todd Kane has been recalled from his loan spell at Bristol City - but don't expect to see him in the first-team anytime soon.
Kane was pulled from City's squad for their match against Gillingham in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy southern area final, a game City won 4-2.
The Chelsea defender, who is yet to make a senior Premier League appearance for the club, was due to return to the Blues later this month when his loan deal expired on January 18th.
But Chelsea have pulled the plug early, much to the disappointment of Bristol City boss Steve Cotterill, with Kane set to move instead on loan to a Championship club.
"Todd has been recalled by Chelsea and it has left a bit of a bad taste," Cotterill told the Bristol Post.
"I would have liked the opportunity to keep him for a bit longer, but he is Chelsea's player and they can do whatever they want with him. I'll be looking for a suitable replacement, that's for sure, but I'll only bring someone in if I think they are good enough."
Kane, 21, was in his third loan spell away from Chelsea and had made five League One appearances for the Robins.
The report claims Kane is likely to now join Nottingham Forest on loan until the end of the season, so Chelsea seem to have recalled him early to move him up a division.
City are flying high in League One at the moment and are hoping to secure promotion into England's second tier. They currently sit joint top in the table, along with Swindon.
Chelsea meanwhile, recently confirmed the loan departures of John Swift and Alex Kiwomya.
Kiwomya has joined Barnsley on an initial month-long loan deal while midfielder Swift will join City's promotion rivals until the end of the season.
