Inter Milan have had discussions with Tottenham Hotspur over a potential move for defensive midfielder Paulinho, according to Italian sources.
Tutto Mercato Web revealed that the Nerazzuri have been interested in signing the Brazilian anchor man for some time and made enquiries for him over the last few weeks. The midfielder has found opportunities under new manager Mauricio Pochettino scarce after his role in Brazil’s ignominious exit at their home World Cup last summer.
Promising no more
Arriving at White Hart Lane from Brazilian club Corinthians in 2013 there was a lot of buzz surrounding Paulinho – and an impressive performance as Brazil won the 2013 Confederations Cup at a canter helped build up the hype around him.
But since that tournament his career has gone downhill after he was unable to live up to expectations in a Andre Villas-Boas’s new-look Spurs side funded by the departure of Gareth Bale.
With Spurs now interested in the likes of Morgan Schneiderlin and Saido Berahino, Paulinho will prove to be the ideal source of funds for the new recruits.
Roberto Mancini is keen to complete the transfer as soon as possible as the 26-year-old is also wanted by Bundesliga side Schalke 04.
