Manchester United set to make £1.5m Ron Vlaar bid

Published 1 Comments

Louis van Gaal is reportedly preparing a £1.5 million bid for Aston Villa defender Ron Vlaar in a bid to shore up the United defence.

Vlaar's contract runs out at the end of the season but it is understood by the Daily Star that van Gaal wants to sign the Dutch international now rather than in the summer.

Villa however insist that Vlaar will be staying until the summer to see out his contract at the club. Aston Villa signed Vlaar from Feyenoord for just under £4 million three years ago and may be tempted to cash in on the centre back before he could walk away for free in the summer.

Villa's defensive cover, alongside Vlaar suffering with a knee injury he picked up in the World Cup means that the midlands club can afford to let the 29-year old go.

United's defence has struggled at times this years due to the mass number of injuries.
