Liverpool have been offered the opportunity to sign former Manchester United captain Nemanja Vidic in a swap deal involving midfield ace Lucas Leiva, according to the Express.
It has been reported that Vidic, who departed Old Trafford this past summer, doesn't have a future in Milan, meaning that he could now return to the Premier League.
And, despite the Serbian having been linked with a return to Manchester United, it now appears that he could complete a stunning move to Anfield.
It's certainly not surprising that Vidic continues to be linked with a move away from Serie A. After all, he's endured a torrid time since joining the club, and has seemingly failed to impress new Inter boss Roberto Mancini.
Liverpool, then, may well secure his services, but it remains to be seen as to whether they will allow Leiva to head off in the other direction. In truth, Leiva has struggled at times under Brendan Rodgers of late, so it wouldn't come as a major surprise if he moved on in the near future.
Of course, it's not yet known as to whether Vidic would be willing to sign for Liverpool after previously plying his trade at Manchester United. There's no doubt about it, after such a successful career at the Theatre of Dreams, fans of the Red Devils wouldn't be happy at the prospect of their ex-captain lining up for their Merseyside rivals.
Vidic, who is now 33-years-old, is certainly in the twilight years of his career, but would no doubt improve Liverpool's extremely vulnerable back-line. Rodgers' side have continued to struggle at the back this season and are in desperate need of additions.
The same report has, however, revealed that Arsenal have also been offered the defender, but Arsene Wenger isn't keen on taking him to the Emirates. Despite the Gunners' struggles at the back this term, it appears that the club's chief has opted against the potential move.
It now remains to be seen as to whether the Liverpool boss presses ahead with a move for the Manchester United hero.
