This week on NXT a former Intercontinental Champion paid a visit to Full Sail University to take on an International sensation whilst the NXT Tag Team Championships were on the line in the main event; an NXT Takeover: R Evolution rematch between The Lucha Dragons and the Vaudevillains.

Some big announcements were also made on the night, NXT officially moves to Wednesday nights starting next week whilst a huge match between Bull Dempsey and Baron Corbin was also announced; topped off with a big NXT Championship rematch.
But heading into this week’s episode of NXT, all eyes were on Sami Zayn who was making his first appearance since Kevin Owens attacked him at the conclusion of NXT Takeover: R Evolution.

And it was Sami Zayn who kicked off NXT with a very vocal crowd in attendance as Sami Zayn celebrated with them. He talked about what the title means, in anyone else’s hands it means you’re the best but in his hands it means you can do it your way and keep doing it your way because the NXT Championship title is the proof. He told the fans that the championship is theirs and that Takeover should have been the best day of his life.

Kevin Owens made sure it wasn’t the best night of his life as even though he hugged him and cried on him, he attacked him which took him out of action. Zayn hyped up his return which brought out former champion Adrian Neville.

He praised Sami and their outing at R Evolution and congratulated him as Zayn dropped a rematch hint. William Regal congratulated them both as he made his way out and told the fans that Sami Zayn will defend his NXT Championship against Adrian Neville next week when NXT takes place on Wednesday.

The Vaudevillains are backstage and talked about how they’ll right the wrong from Takeover and become the new NXT Tag Team Champions.

Hideo Itami was in singles action next and took on Curtis Axel. A good opening match, a technical battle with plenty of back and forth action, Axel missed the Perfect Plex which resulted in Itami landing a spinning kick to Axel’s head for the victory.

Backstage, Tyson Kidd was preparing for his big match next week against Finn Balor. Natalya tries to hijack the interview but Tyson Kidd blows her off by ordering her to go and feed his cats. He then talked to Byron Saxton about defeating Finn Balor and going on to become NXT Champion and the face of NXT before replacing Sarah McLachlan as the face of the ASPCA, and that’s a fact.

A video package hyping up the huge match between Bull Dempsey and Baron Corbin aired next before Sasha Banks and Alexa Bliss were in divas action. A short match where Bliss started off quickly with a sunset flip but Banks took control with right hands to the face and set up the Bank Statement for the submission victory.

After a number of weeks out, Tyler Breeze was back on NXT and he was taking on the impressive Chad Gable who received a great reaction from the crowd. Chad Gable started off strongly with a front facelock but Breeze was always destined to win the match. Breeze was angry after being locked in an armbar for a four count and followed it up with a Beauty Shot for the win. A recap of the conclusion of the match showed Breeze celebrating his win, and the camera caught an ominous face watching from affair, at this moment it’s not clear who it was.

Finn Balor was backstage and talked about the fact that he was looking forward to facing Tyson Kidd next week as he has looked up to him his whole life. He said he knows Tyson loves cats but he’ll need more than nine lives to survive next week, fact.

Main event time with the NXT Tag Team Championships on the line and the Vaudevillains were the more dominating team in this match and it’s been clear for a while now that they are ready for the gold and they should be the next NXT Tag Team Championships but it’s unclear whether they will challenge or dethrone the Lucha Dragons at the next NXT special event.

The Lucha Dragons picked up the win after Kalisto hot-tagged Sin Cara and as usual, everything broke down in the ring. Eventually Sin Cara lifted Aiden English for the powerbomb and Kalisto added an impressive spinning clothesline to the back of Aiden English’s head for the victory.

A big week for NXT next week as the show moves to Wednesday, Baron Corbin takes on Bull Dempsey, Tyson Kidd will go one on one with Finn Balor whilst Sami Zayn will defend his NXT Championship against Adrian Neville.
