Iker Casillas has spoken out about his strained relationship with Xabi Alonso and explained that Carlo Ancelotti is a much better coach than Jose Mourinho.
Speaking to Spanish radio station Cadena Cope the Spanish international said: “I am not interested in what Xabi says. In the last few years the relationship has not been the best. It’s no big deal.
“You get on better with some players than others. We have had a very different time of it in the last few years. Some people have praised the way he behaved and others have praised the way I behaved.”
Relationship of two halves
Casillas and Alonso found themselves on opposites of a divided dressing room under Jose Mourinho.
Alonso had been a vehement defender of the manager and his methods while Casillas, upset by consistent spells on the bench, did not hide his disapproval of the Portuguese boss.
No way Jose
But the most decorated goalkeeper in Real Madrid’s history said that he would be civil if he were to bump into Mourinho again.
“If I saw him I would shake his hand of course. Then it would be up to him to shake mine or not.”
And when asked how current boss Ancelotti compared to the 'Special One' Casillas was quick to explain that 'Ancelotti has been a player and I think he is a better coach than Mourinho.'
And Xabi Alonso appears to prefer his current colleagues to those of old after he continued the recent cold war with Casillas when comparing him with Manuel Neuer.
The Bayern Munich midfielder said that the World Cup winner was “by far the best goalkeeper” he had ever played with.
