Manchester United is the dream destination for young Turkish attacking midfielder Irfan Kahveci, the player has revealed.
The 19-year-old playmaker has graduated into the Gençlerbirliği first team this season, impressing on loan at Hacettepe last term before returning to his parent club in the summer.
He’s subsequently scored four and created two for his side in all competitions this season, producing performances that have led to youth international recognition for Turkey - although he is yet to earn a senior cap for his country.
Gençlerbirliği are currently sat in mid-table in the Super Lig this season after finishing ninth last term, and whilst he is a fan of the Ankara-based club himself, he aspired to make it big in Europe, more specifically with the Red Devils.
“I have always been a Gençlerbirliği fan,” said Kahveci in his homeland.
“But if I move my goal is to move directly to Europe, my dream is to play for Manchester United. It is more the clubs prestige and history that attracts me not just how much I can make.”
Kahveci is not a name that has been mentioned alongside Manchester United, despite the January transfer window being in full swing.
However, the teenager has put himself in the shop window for the Red Devils, throwing out a clear indication to Louis van Gaal that he would be keen to join the Premier League giants if they wanted to make a move.
Whether Manchester United decide to send scouts to watch Irfan Buz’s side remains to be seen, but if a plethora of clubs do decide they want to sign the player in the coming years, then it’s clear who has the advantage.
