Roman Reigns was set to have a huge 2015 with a Royal Rumble victory and a win in the WrestleMania XXXI main event, where he was reported to become the new WWE World Heavyweight Champion. However, recent reports suggest that his push may be scrapped due to his work on the microphone.
It’s been around a year since the Roman Reigns push started as he broke the record for most eliminations in a Royal Rumble but his progress was cut short due to emergency surgery.
Now that he’s back it was thought that he would be the favorite to win the Rumble this year, but now it looks as if the WWE have a number of other options they could go with instead - such as Daniel Bryan, Dolph Ziggler and Dean Ambrose.
LOCKER ROOM NOT IMPRESSED
Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter has revealed what the superstars and divas backstage think of Roman Reigns and his promo work. It’s no secret that the internet wrestling community have not held back in voicing their displeasure with his work and the fact that his material every single week is halting his progression to become a top superstar, and Meltzer has noted that certain WWE personnel feel the same way.
Meltzer has claimed that the talent backstage are saying that Roman Reigns’ promos are ‘killing him’ and it’s not simply the manner in which he delivers his script but the material the writers are also handing him is playing a part in his slow development. He says that if the writers continue to give him the same mediocre material then he’ll continue to sink deeper into his own trap.

Regardless of what we or backstage talent think, Reigns will still be built as a monster in every other way whether it’s inside the ring or in video packages because as soon as he’s on the microphone the fans don’t take him as seriously as they could.
Last month, there were a number of reports breaking that suggested the WWE have scrapped their plans to make Roman Reigns win the Royal Rumble, which means he might not be heading to WrestleMania XXXI to dethrone Brock Lesnar. It remains to be seen whether the WWE will actually have Brock Lesnar go into WrestleMania with the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.
Vince McMahon and Triple H are big supporters of Roman Reigns and at the end of the day whatever they say goes. There’s no doubt that he has the perfect look to be the face of the company for years to come and he’s certainly a marketable superstar considering how much the younger audience loves him, but there’s only a certain amount of time that might work for. With his current overall skill-set he won’t succeed as being the next John Cena successfully.
The WWE won’t be pleased with how the fans have responded to Reigns’ development and push so far. However, if they do go ahead with the original and predictable plan and he goes on to defeat the man who conquered the streak and does it in great fashion, then perhaps his doubters will start believing in him. For now, the majority of the audience would want to see a lot more from him.
There’s also the chance that the fans could turn on him if he eliminates Daniel Bryan from the Royal Rumble as he will be looking to reclaim the championship he never lost. A Rumble win could set Bryan up with a clash against Lesnar or even Seth Rollins if he manages to walk out of Philadelphia with the gold. Whilst the fans would also love to see all three former members of The Shield battle it out for the most coveted prize in sports entertainment.
There’s no denying his ability and his potential, but it’s true that he’s certainly missing something to make him even better. This links in with what Vince McMahon had to say on the Stone Cold Steve Austin podcast a number of weeks ago. He stated that Cesaro didn’t have what it takes to be the top guy because of his lack of charisma on the microphone, but he’s better than Reigns inside of the ring and in other areas as well, so it’s clear the WWE are focusing heavily on Reigns regardless of what he's lacking.
The fans soured on John Cena when he was forced down the WWE Universe’ throats, and the same thing for Reigns could have the same outcome.
