Francesco Totti celebrates with a selfie after brace in Rome derby

Francesco Totti is already a legend at AS Roma and doesn’t need to do much to get fans singing his name, but his antics on Sunday afternoon in the Rome derby will only have enhanced his reputation - for some people anyway.

Lazio had taken a two-goal lead inside half an hour thanks to Stefano Mauri and Felipe Anderson each finding the net in the space of four minutes at the Stadio Olimpico. The pair were obviously on the same wavelength, as Mauri’s goal was assisted brilliantly by Felipe for the first and vice versa for the second.

However, these kinds of games are where the world’s best players step up their games - and there is no doubt that Totti is one of the best. Just after half-time he halved the deficit to get the Gialorossi back in touch and stepped up again to square things up.

It was a frenetic match with plenty of drama, but the biggest talking point came in the aftermath of the equaliser from Totti on 64 minutes. He may be 38 years old, but the Italian playmaker looked spritely enough when volleying in brilliantly at the far post from a Jose Holebas cross.

Totti then got further in touch with his youthful side by getting a mobile phone from one of the Roma staff on the sidelines and took a selfie with the celebrating fans in the stands behind him - he even had the selfie pout going on!

Some people will think it is the coolest thing since Taylor Swift’s latest chart release, while there have already been a sizeable number of people on social media voicing their disappointment at the legend’s decision to ‘selfie-brate’ (yes, I did just make that silly word up).

Whatever you think of it, Totte certainly left his mark on what was a very entertaining Rome derby, as he has always done; his brace at the match made him the highest scorer in the history of the fixture.
