Kate Abdo set to cause a storm at tonight's Ballon d'Or

When the Ballon d’Or presentation officially gets underway in Zurich, Switzerland, this evening, it’s a safe bet to assume that millions of eyes will be waiting with baited breath to see who takes home the grand prize.

Yet the trio of Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi and Manuel Neuer might not be the only show-stealers available for the world to feast their eyes upon. An unlikely source, and one that is sure to cause a buzz come kick-off time, is Kate Abdo, who will be presenting the entertainment.

Tonight's event

The Sky Sports presenter uploaded pictures earlier on today of the last-minute rehearsals taking place for the event, and it’s safe to say she’s set to wow viewers. Already known to British audiences, Abdo, 33, will be on stage when the world’s best player is crowned, having replaced Brazilian Fernanda Lima.

Having previously worked for DW-TV in Germany and CNN, Abdo is fluent in several languages, making her the perfect candidate for the role. Even so it will be a daunting task when it comes to the official ceremony.

Other awards

With other prizes such as the Puskas Award and the Coach of the Year up for grabs this year’s competition is set to be one of the hottest yet, with the majority of the world’s best footballers in attendance.

One man who won’t be appearing is Robin van Persie - one of three nominees for the Puskas Award for his goal against Spain at this summer’s World Cup - as he’s confirmed via Twitter that he’s been medically advised not to make the jaunt to Switzerland.
