Manchester United fans might still be reeling from Sunday’s 1-0 home defeat to Southampton - which means Louis van Gaal has picked up the exact same number of points as David Moyes did this time last season - but there might be better news on the horizon in terms of transfers.
Fresh reports suggest United are ’80 per cent’ towards completing a deal for a £25 million-rated defender, while the Red Devils are also hoping to secure the services of a former Chelsea winger later this month.

And, perhaps even more excitingly, Manchester United have been informed that they could sign one of Bayern Munich’s best players - provided they stump up £45 million this summer.
Before all of that, though, we must talk about today’s hot topic - which is, of course, the future of United’s current number nine, Radamel Falcao.
A photo emerged on Twitter allegedly showing the Colombia international storming out of Old Trafford after being informed by Louis van Gaal that he was not in the 18-man squad prior to kick-off on Sunday afternoon.
However, these rumours were quashed by Van Gaal, who admitted he would be holding showdown talks with the forward at some point today.
Van Gaal’s surprise decision to leave Falcao out of his squad predictably sparked outrage on Twitter, while former Arsenal defender Nigel Winterburn is now convinced that Manchester United will reject the chance to sign Falcao on a permanent contract come the end of the season.
Johnstone leaves; Keane to follow
In other news, a Manchester United goalkeeper has left the club. Don’t panic, United fans, it’s not David de Gea - it’s 21-year-old Sam Johnstone, who has signed a loan deal with Preston North End until the end of the season.
And a second player is expected to leave Old Trafford later this week. Striker Will Keane could complete a loan move to Championship side Reading before the Royals’ match against Fulham this weekend.
Thomas Muller and Paul Pogba
Meanwhile, Manchester United could sign Bayern Munich’s indefatigable forward Thomas Muller for the small price of £45 million. And Juventus are planning to cash-in on the brilliant Paul Pogba in 2016. Could a return to Old Trafford be on the cards for the France international?
Samir Nasri: I met Ferguson
Speaking of France internationals, Samir Nasri has incredibly claimed that he met former United boss Sir Alex Ferguson in a hotel prior to his move to Manchester City from Arsenal.
Nasri says he rejected a move to Old Trafford after being instructed by Ferguson to ‘go to war’ with Arsene Wenger in order to force a transfer.
Laporte and Tore
Meanwhile, Van Gaal is close to signing ‘boyhood United fan’ Aymeric Laporte from Athletic Bilbao - who would cost in the region of £25 million - and new reports claim the Red Devils are plotting a shock move for ex-Chelsea youngster Gokhan Tore, who currently plies his trade for Besiktas.
