Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal is set to completely overhaul his defence, according to the Daily Star.
The report has suggested that the Red Devils boss, who has endured a tricky start to his Old Trafford career, is ready to show the trio of Phil Jones, Chris Smalling and Jonny Evans the exit door as he attempts to bring the likes of Mats Hummels, Raphael Varane and Diego Godin to the club.
There's no doubt about it, the Red Devils have struggled at the back throughout the course of the campaign so far, with the likes of Jones, Smalling and Co. failing to maintain their fitness and find top form.
Ultimately, then, United have looked vulnerable in defence this term, so it's not surprising that the Red Devils boss is ready to make big changes in the near future.
The United hierarchy, who splashed the cash this past summer, may well have to spend big once again this year, as they go in search of improvement under the Van Gaal regime.

In fact, the trio of Hummels, Godin and Varane could cost the club as much as £88.5 million. Borussia Dortmund ace Hummels, who has also been linked with a move to Arsenal, has been rated at £35m, whilst Atletico Madrid star Godin has a reported buyout clause worth £28.5m.
Talented Real Madrid defender Varane, on the other hand, has been rated at the £20m mark, with Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho also seemingly interested in his signature.
It appears, then, that it won't prove easy for the United boss to change his back-line, but it certainly appears that the club have the financial power to land some of Europe's top defenders sooner rather than later.
Van Gaal's immediate attention, however, will turn to getting his side ready for this weekend's Premier League clash with QPR as the Red Devils look to bounce back after a disappointing defeat to top four rivals Southampton yesterday.
