Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has admitted that he still thinks about his former club Manchester United, reports the Mirror.

Ronaldo, who secured his second consecutive Ballon d'Or award in Zurich last night, has insisted he's aware that fans of the Red Devils are supporting him.

The Portuguese forward, of course, departed Old Trafford in the summer of 2009 for a then world record fee of £80 million, but has been linked back with a stunning return to the Theatre of Dreams in recent time.

And after picking up his third Ballon d'Or award last night, the Real Madrid man told reporters: "I think about Manchester United. The beginning of my career was there, that’s where I started.

"I know the fans are there supporting me."

As well as admitting that he still thinks about Manchester United, the Real Madrid ace has also revealed that he's still in regular contact with former manager Sir Alex Ferguson.

Ronaldo has admitted that he misses his former manager, who has told him to keep improving as he goes in search of more individual and team awards.

He continued by saying: "I haven’t had a message from Sir Alex yet but I speak with him often," he added.

"He told me to keep improving all the time. He said: 'Cristiano, you’re the best, don’t worry about the rest'.

"He's fantastic, I miss him."

Ronaldo, then, will now be hoping to produce the goods once again this year as he goes in search of a third Ballon d'Or award in a row.

With Real Madrid, however, he will be hoping to play a huge role in helping the club win back the La Liga title, whilst targeting another Champions League winners medal.

Manchester United, meanwhile, will be hoping Ronaldo's former teammate Angel di Maria provides the spark to help the club regain their status in Europe's elite competition. After last season's nightmare campaign, the Red Devils are currently sitting fourth place in the league table, but will be hoping to improve further under the Louis van Gaal regime throughout the remainder of the season.
