Lee Dixon offers to return to Arsenal to solve crisis

With Mathieu Debuchy set for up to three months on the sidelines, The Daily Mirror reported via their Twitter account that Arsenal could be searching for a full-back.

Within minutes Arsenal legend Lee Dixon replied and tweeted:  "I'm Available." It was a light hearted response, but it was one Arsenal fans would have liked to have taken seriously.

The response was vast and positive. Arsenal fans seemingly believe that the 50-year-old could still do a job and is better than what they've got at the moment.

The Gunners are not just looking for a defender though. They have also been linked with Centre Backs and Defensive Midfielders. One fan tweeted: "Would love to have you back Lee, but can you play DM?" and Dixon replied: "I can play anywhere. in my head!"

These tweets are nothing but a bit of banter however who's to say that Lee Dixon, a pundit for ITV, isn't interested in going back to Arsenal?

The former England international clearly holds a place in many Arsenal fans hearts. During his 15 year stint with the club, he made over 600 appearances, won four league titles, three FA Cups, The League Cup and the UEFA Cup Winners Cup.

Arsenal have been linked with Joao Pereira and Alvaro Arbeloa in their search to cover the loss of Debuchy although it's thought Arbeloa would prefer a move to Anfield and a return to Liverpool.

With a move looking unlikely, Hector Bellerin is set to deputise for Arsenal's trip to the Etihad. Dixon had another suggestion of his own when he tweeted: "I bet they wish there was a break clause in the CJ WH loan deal!" He was of course refering to Carl Jenkinson who's loan spell at West Ham doesn't expire until the summer.
