Manchester United will have to pay at least £30m to sign Paris Saint Germain centre-back Marquinhos this month.
According to The Metro, the French champions have set their asking price for the 20-year-old Brazilian international, and want to at least recoup the fee they paid Roma for his services in 2013.
Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has been backed to enter the transfer market this month, as the United board wants to assure the club qualifies for the Champions League next season.
The Dutchman's main remit at Old Trafford is to ensure that the club's Champions League hiatus is limited to just a single season, something which looks achievable with United currently fourth.
But the defeat to Southampton at home last weekend showed that despite a positive run of form in November and December, this United team is not quite clicking just yet.
Defence has been a particular cause for concern, as neither Jonny Evans, Phil Jones or Chris Smalling has taken control when given the opportunity by Van Gaal.
As a result, he's expected to dip into the market this month to strengthen a back-line that has been forced to rely on academy graduates Tyler Blackett and Paddy McNair already this season.
Marquinhos at PSG
Marquinhos is regarded as one of the world's premier young defenders, and became one of the most expensive teenage transfers ever when he moved to Paris from the Italian capital.
But, since the arrival of David Luiz from Chelsea, the youngster has found himself down the pecking order and Van Gaal has identified him as a potential target.
He wouldn't come cheap though, as PSG would not want to make a loss on the player who still has flashed his considerable potential when given the chance by Laurent Blanc.
