Given how strong Chelsea have looked so far this season fans would be forgiven for thinking that Jose Mourinho wasn’t plotting any big transfers for the January window.
However they’d be well and truly wrong, as The Special One is said to be considering a number of moves as he looks to ensure that his side are capable of clinching the title during the second half of the season.
Triple deal on the horizon
According to reports today Mourinho is preparing to get rid of both Mohamed Salah and Andre Schurrle, whilst at the same time swooping for Real Madrid ace Raphael Varane.
Mourinho has had an interest in the France international ever since his stint in charge at the Santiago Bernabeu, and it would appear that he’s ready to sacrifice two of his current players if it means he’ll get the funds and squad space in order to make a Varane capture feasible.
Obviously Real would be loath to part ways with their prodigal centre-back, but Mourinho shares a good relationship with the player, who himself is said to be frustrated behind Pepe and Sergio Ramos in the pecking order.
Marco Reus boost
Elsewhere Borussia Dortmund have admitted that Marco Reus may leave the Signal Iduna Park, peaking the interest of a number of top European clubs. The Blues have been linked on and off with the Germany star for a while, and his release clause is hardly off-putting for a player of his quality.
Meanwhile Besiktas have confirmed via their president, Fikret Orman, that they are in talks to sign both Salah and rising star Nathan Ake this month. It’s believed that the deal for the Egyptian Salah, who has failed to make a lasting impression on the Blues’ first-team could be a permanent one, though the move for Ake would only be a loan.
Both men are looking for game-time for different reasons, and the move to a low-pressure division like the Turkish Super Lig could end up paying dividends for all involved.
Kevin Strootman and the 'stupid' offer
Last but not least there’s been another transfer boost received by way of AS Roma. The Italian giants have confirmed that they may one day sell Kevin Strootman - who has been linked with Chelsea amongst others - but only if they received a ‘stupid’ offer first.
With Roman Abramovich’s billions still financing the club that means a deal could be more achievable than for other clubs, which should serve to make Mourinho happy.
