Marcelo Brozovic has been speaking with Arsenal for the last three months, reports the Express.
The Croatian ace, who is currently plying his trade at Dinamo Zagreb, is just 22-years-old and has proved his credentials on the club and international scene in recent time.
In fact, Brozovic has been likened to Barcelona superstar Xavi, with him having been dubbed the 'Croatian Xavi for his wonderful abilities in the middle of the park.
And, with the Gunners having been interested in the midfield star for some time, it now appears that the north London club are closing in on a move for his signature.
The same report has revealed that the Gunners are closing in on a £6 million move for his services, as Arsene Wenger looks to improve his options in the middle of the park.

There's no doubt about it, the north London outfit have struggled in the midfield department in recent time, with the likes of Mathieu Flamini, Mikel Arteta and Co. failing to protect the club's back-line.
A deal for Brozovic, then, would prove quite the coup for the Gunners as they go in search of long term success.
There will, however, be a few Arsenal fans that may well be worried that Brozovic isn't a natural defensive-midfielder, as he likes to drive forward with the ball and help create goals for his teammates.
He is, however, extremely versatile and as he develops, Wenger may look to utilise the versatile midfielder in a number of different positions.
Wenger's immediate attention will turn to this weekend's Premier League schedule as he takes his side to the Etihad to take on Premier League champions Manchester City.
The Gunners will be desperate to secure a positive result against Manuel Pellegrini's side as they go in search of claiming their place in next year's Champions League. And, after last week's comfortable victory over Stoke City, the Gunners will head into the game in great spirits, but face the ultimate test against the Sky Blues.
