Real madrid are prepared to splash out a world record £50million to land Manchester United star David de Gea this summer, and they are confident that they will get their man without too much trouble.
According to the Daily Star Sunday, the Santiago Bernabeu outfit have come to the decision that the Old Trafford number one will be one of their major summer signings, despite the fact the Premier League giants are desperate to hang on to him.
The report claims that Manchester United are by no means ready to let one of their most prized assets leave without a fight, but have put a £50million price tag on any possible deal. The world record transfer for a goalkeeper was the £33million Juventus paid Parma for Gianluigi Buffon in 2001.
De Gea’s future at Old Trafford has been in question for some time now as he is yet to agree on an extension to his current contract, which expires in the summer of 2016. United will almost certainly not risk losing him on a free transfer and losing him this summer is becoming increasingly likely.
Manager Louis van Gaal appears to have already made a contingency plan by signing Victor Valdes on a free transfer this month. The former Barcelona number one has been without a club since leaving Camp Nou last summer and the pair have worked together before.
Meanwhile, current Real Madrid number one, Iker Casillas, has seen confidence in him drop in the past couple of years as the standard of his performances have started to slip. The Spain legend had a torrid time last season and De Gea has been tipped as his natural successor.
‘Los Blancos’ obviously feel that after having Spain’s international number one is not something they want to stop after over a decade. De Gea has looked as though he is ousting his illustrious teammate from the first choice spot under Vicente del Bosque, especially after Casillas had a nightmare World Cup.
