Boca Juniors and Racing Club are not exactly best friends when it comes to relationships between clubs in Argentinian football, but one would expect that in a friendly match even two teams that absolutely despised each another could keep a lid on the aggression.
Well, Boca and Racing may not exactly be the archest of enemies but there appeared to be plenty of needle in the pre-season friendly clash they had before the domestic season gets going again in February.
It looks as though Boca brought several needles to the match at the Estadio Presidente Perón, because they were down to nine men in the FIRST half. That is quite a feat for a match that means little other than getting a bit of a runout.
Most shocking was the red card received by defender Leandro Marin, who saw red after what might be the worst tackle you are likely to see this year - and possibly longer. Racing forward Ricardo Centurion had his back to goal and was about to receive a forward pass, before he was scythed down.
It really was horrific; Marin rushed to close the 21-year-old down, possibly thinking he was diving in to get ahead of his opponent, but all he managed to do was fly into the back of his opponent. Looking at the replays, the way he ploughs into Centurion suggests it was intentional. Watch it here…

Understandably, the rest of the Racing team were best pleased with the outrageous challenge and the officials had their work cut out to stop it from the turning into a brawl. At least the referee was decisive - he had his red card out almost before Marin could get up from the challenge.
What’s even more shocking is that Marin looks a little shocked at being dismissed - you can’t get more red that his red. Racing eventually ran out 4-1 winners, but we suspect Marin and Centurion may be clashing again when the teams meet in the league.
