This week NXT finally moved to its new night on Wednesday as Sami Zayn successfully defended his NXT Championship against Adrian Neville whilst Finn Balor came out on top against Tyson Kidd.
With NXT now moving to a new night on Wednesday, NXT will now be taped on Thursday’s and this week three weeks of TV tapings were recorded at the usual location at Full Sail University in Florida which will air from January 21 and take us through to February 4; with the first NXT Takeover of the year set to take place on February 11.
If you wish to avoid the spoilers for the next three NXT episodes, then please turn back now.
The first episode will be shown on television on January 21 and Solomon Crowe is in action in a dark match, picking up the victory over Jason Jordan – hopefully 2015 is the year the entertaining Solomon Crowe is brought onto regular television. To kick off the first show we find out that NXT Takeover will take place on February 11 and that a tournament will begin to determine the number one contender to Sami Zayn’s NXT Championship.
Tye Dillinger is in the ring for a match but a furious Sami Zayn runs down to the ring and attacks Dillinger before the bell even rings and then demands a fight with Kevin Owens. William Regal is out instead and Zayn orders the General Manager to make the match whether it’s non-title or for the gold, he doesn’t care as he just wants to face Kevin Owens. William Regal understands how much it means to Sami Zayn and announces that at NXT Takeover, the main event will be Sami Zayn vs. Kevin Owens in a non-title match.
The first match of the NXT Championship number one contender’s tournament sees Finn Balor defeat Curtis Axel, whilst Charlotte successfully defends her NXT Women’s Championship against Sasha Banks as Becky Lynch got involved to cost her partner the win. Bayley then came to the ring to help Charlotte but instead turned on the champion and hits the Bayley-to-Belly before William Regal came to the ring to book a Fatal 4 Way NXT Women’s Championship match for Takeover.
In tag team action The Vaudevillians take on Buddy Murphy and Wesley Blake, and it’s actually the latter who pick up the surprising win as Wesley Blake rolled up Aiden English for the victory.
In the main event, another quarter final match as Hideo Itami advances to the semi-final with a victory over Tyler Breeze.
The second show will air on January 28 and the opening match is another quarter final match-up, Tyson Kidd and Adrian Neville will kick off the show and it’s Adrian Neville who advances to the semi-final. He then cuts a promo, saying he’ll win the tournament and get back to the top again and vows to become the NXT Champion again.
Bayley teams up with Charlotte in tag team action after Bayley attacked Charlotte the week before, taking on Sasha Banks and Becky Lynch and it ended in a no contest after Bayley and Charlotte started to attack one another, the referee then called for the bell.
The NXT Tag Team Championships were defended next, The Lucha Dragons taking on Wesley Blake and Buddy Murphy and a shocking result, Wesley Blake once again with the roll-up on Kalisto and we have new NXT Tag Team Champions from nowhere.
The final quarter final match in the tournament and Baron Corbin defeats Bull Dempsey once again, and takes on Adrian Neville on the third show.
A contract signing segment closes off the second show, Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens finally come face to face. Sami tells Owens that he expected the betrayal but he thought things would be okay between the two as they both finally made it to the WWE. But Kevin Owens focuses on the contract and tells William Regal that he’s in NXT for a reason and the reason isn’t Sami Zayn, it’s the championship. He demands a championship match and Sami Zayn is up for the change and tells William Regal to do the same before both competitors sign the contract and its official, NXT Takeover will see Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens battle it out for the NXT Championship.
The third taping will air on February 4 and Carmella defeats Emma in the opening bout of the night before we see Adrian Neville take on Baron Corbin in a semi-final match in the tournament and it’s Adrian Neville who advances to the final at Takeover. He picked up the win after Bull Dempsey came out and attacked Baron Corbin whilst the referee was distracted.
Bayley picks up a win over Becky Lynch before Sasha Banks got involved and the three started to brawl, but it was Charlotte who came to the ring and stood tall over the divas.
In the main event – in what is said to be an incredible match – we see the second semi-final match in the tournament as Finn Balor takes on Hideo Itami. Both men shake hands before and after the match as Finn Balor picks up the win.
The final is now set for NXT Takeover, Adrian Neville will take on Finn Balor to become the number one contender for the NXT Championship, which Kevin Owens will try to take from Sami Zayn in just under one month.
