Richard Sherman will play in the Super Bowl. We can guarantee that right now. But how fit Richard Sherman will be come kick-off in Arizona on February 1 is definitely open to plenty of debate and speculation.

It was confirmed Monday that the star cornerback suffered an elbow sprain in the Seahawks' incredible NFC Championship Game 28-22 victory against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday night.

Though reports coming out of Seattle suggest that Seahawks' fans should not be worried with Sherman's injury status, the reality is that he will be somewhat hindered during the Super Bowl.

Set to be limited in Super Bowl?

For the average person, an elbow sprain takes around four weeks to recover from, according to the U.S. National Library of Medicine. But obviously we are not talking about an average person, we are talking about Richard Sherman.

When you consider the aid in terms of expert painkillers and the sheer fact that Sherman is an athlete at the top of his profession, his recovery from injury will be faster than most. However, there is still the high possibility that Sherman will play in the Super Bowl with some kind of splint or cast, thus severely affecting his mobility and agility.

Sherman spoke out after the game via Twitter before his diagnosis and promised fans he would be okay for the Super Bowl.

Elbow sprain confirmed

Meanwhile, on Monday, NFL insider Albert Breer confirmed that Sherman had suffered a sprained elbow, with Breer stating that he expects the All-Pro to be able to play in the Super Bowl.

Sherman went for an MRI on Monday to find out the extent of the damage caused by teammate Kam Chancellor after the two collided in the fourth quarter, with the diagnosis the best Seattle could have hoped for.

Undoubtedly, Sherman will be somewhat limited in the Super Bowl and will become an easier target for Tom Brady and the New England Patriots. But as we saw on Sunday after Sherman's injury, even with one hand the dominant cornerback is still incredibly effective.
