West Ham are reportedly in the running to sign Dirk Kuyt and he would be a great addition for them as they look to secure European football, according to talkSPORT.
The Dutch international is out of contract with Fenerbahce in the summer and the Turkish outfit are keen to cash in on him now, rather than risk losing the player for nothing in the summer.
This has various high profile clubs on red alert – Valencia, AC Milan and Lyon to name a few – but he would fit in perfectly in east London.
The most notable trait of the former Liverpool man is his incredible stamina and work rate. Wherever he plays he always gives his all, covering incredible ground and helping the team in any way possible.
If there is such thing as a Sam Allardyce type player, Kuyt is it. His tenacity, endeavour and leadership qualities are what make him stand out as he is not blessed with the best technical ability.
It is no surprise to see the Hammers are interested in the 34-year-old star; he’d be brilliant at Upton Park as he can play literally everywhere.
At the World Cup last summer Kuyt played left-back, right-back and in midfield all during one match.
Not once did he look out of place or get exposed, he’s an absolute machine and he’d provide even more strength and depth to a vastly improving West Ham squad.
He was one of the stars for Holland in Brazil, helping them to a third-place finish. His competitive, winning-mentality would bring a lot to West Ham both on and off the pitch.
While he may not be an instant starter the fact he is so versatile means if anyone was to get injured he could fill in, particularly in forward positions, but even at wing-back.
If given the choice between him and Kevin Nolan for example, Kuyt would surely be the more attractive option, perhaps even to Allardyce who has always been a fan of the club captain.
Kuyt scored 71 goals in 250 appearances while at Anfield – the club closest to his heart – but a move back to the Premier League could be tempting.
Whether it would be with West Ham, though, is hard to foresee. He has Dutch ties with Louis van Gaal at Manchester United and Ronald Koeman at Southampton, both of whom have been linked with him in the past and could have the upper hand if they expressed an interest.
Do you think Dirk Kuyt would be a good addition for West Ham?
