Plans for John Cena to become the WWE Heavyweight Championship belt holder for a 16th reign have been revealed thanks to leaked WWE promotional material that gained publicity last week.
The WWE has done a great job of keeping this story relatively under wraps, but thanks to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer, it has been revealed that promotional material now pulled from an event in Allentown was advertising John Cena as the WWE Heavyweight Champion for a house show in March.
The promotional material speaks of Cena as the champion heading into the house show in March and urges fans to purchase tickets to watch the new champion in action.
Points to an exit for Lesnar
Brock Lesnar is the current WWE champion and the leak raises fresh questions over whether or not the former UFC star will be in WWE post-WrestleMania 31.
Reports suggest that the WWE and Brock Lesnar have not come to terms on a new contract and will part ways after Mania, with this leaked promotional report pointing to WWE's decision to take the title out of Lesnar's hands prior to his final appearance in pro wrestling.
"There was a mistake made this past week as a listing (which was pulled the next day) for the March house show in Allentown that got out early and listed WWE champion Cena as headlining," David Meltzer revealed in the Wrestling Observer.
"That means, at least as of when the material was sent out, likely to be embargoed (it is very common in advertising and reporting to send out materials early to be released at a certain time) that at one point Cena was leaving Philadelphia as champion.
"That would further rumors that Lesnar isn’t signing a new deal. Wonder if that’s the case, what that means for Heyman, unless Heyman slides in with Rollins. But I wouldn’t take that as any kind of gospel although they have had a basic plan in place for the Rumble title match and Mania for some time, although it can also change at any time."
Change can't come soon enough
WWE have courted a lot of negative publicity in recent months regarding the almost farcical situation they have endured with Brock Lesnar.
Lesnar is the current holder of the WWE Heavyweight Championship belt despite his continued on and off absence from the WWE, and the sooner the WWE gets the belt out of the hands of a part-time wrestler the better. If this leak is to be believed, the Royal Rumble triple-threat match will be won by John Cena and he will still be the champion when March comes around. Many WWE fans will feel this is good riddance for Brock Lesnar.
