Will Manchester United fans ever see the best of Radamel Falcao? Perhaps they will once the Colombia international makes his way to the Etihad Stadium to play for fierce local rivals Manchester City next season.
According to Portuguese newspaper A Bola, the reigning Premier League champions will make a shock move for Falcao should Manchester United reject the chance to turn the striker’s loan into a permanent move.
But they’ve just signed Wilfried Bony, we hear you cry. They have indeed. But Manuel Pellegrini’s decision to offload Edin Dzeko and Stevan Jovetic would free up room for Carlos Tevez Mk. II - sorry, Falcao.
Jose: I turned down Falcao and Di Maria!
Staying with Falcao and Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has sensationally claimed that he turned down the chance to sign the striker, plus Angel di Maria, last summer.
The Blues’ manager believes it would have caused an “explosion” in the dressing room because of their astronomical wages - and left the club in danger of Financial Fair Play punishments.
Cavani wants Arsenal move
Away from Falcao and on to another supposedly world-class number nine: Edinson Cavani.
According to reports in the Express today, the Uruguay international has decided that Arsenal is his preferred destination should he leave Paris Saint-Germain either this month of in the summer.
One can only assume he watched the Gunners’ 2-0 win over Manchester City on Sunday.
United favourite to sign... Messi!
Meanwhile, the Daily Star report that Manchester United are favourites to sign none other than the world’s best player himself - ignore that bit if you love Cristiano Ronaldo - Lionel Messi.
Dani Alves could also join
And Messi might not be the only Barcelona star to end up at Old Trafford this summer. Reports in Spain claim Dani Alves could be tempted to join the Red Devils because of the presence of Victor Valdes.
So that’s why Louis van Gaal signed the Spanish goalkeeper…
Farewell, Sam Johnstone
And on the subject of Manchester United goalkeepers, Van Gaal has reportedly put fourth - maybe fifth, sixth? - choice keeper Sam Johnstone on the transfer list.
The 21-year-old has virtually zero chance of becoming United’s No. 1 - especially after the arrival of Valdes - and has been told to start packing his bags.
Bruno Martins Indi
And finally, Manchester United have renewed their interest in scary-eyed Dutch defender Bruno Martins Indi, who currently plies his trade with FC Porto.
Van Gaal knows the 22-year-old centre-back well, having worked with him during his spell managing the Netherlands national team, and may regard him to be an ideal alternative to the more expensive Mats Hummels.
