With Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather edging ever close to what will be an historic fight the former has today embarked on the latest chapter in a long line of trash talking.
Taking to Twitter to comment on the speculated bout (a January deadline appears in place for an agreement to be reached), Pacquiao was in confident mood - telling his many followers that he would "easily beat" Mayweather should they ever come face to face in the ring.
The two fighters are the finest of their generation but with Floyd Mayweather retaining an unblemished perfect 47-0 record, and Pacquiao having been defeated on five occasions during his professional career, it is certainly a bold claim. Although with so much at stake can you really expect anything less from the Filipino?
The latest onslaught against Mayweather, spanning over a number of tweets on Tuesday, began with this simple proclamation:
- Title-holding boxer arrested on eight felony charges after gun incident
- One major stumbling block remains in Mayweather vs Pacquiao negotiations
- Manny Pacquiao makes big Mayweather fight statement
A Mayweather-Pacquiao fight has been discussed for many years but now rumor and speculation has turned to concrete discussion and negotiation. With the bout of boxing fan's dreams appearing closer to confirmation as it has ever been it is clear that Pacquiao isn't letting up at this stage:
Mayweather is unlikely to take this latest slight against him lying down and, as we have seen many times in the past, we can likely expect a response from the US fighter sooner rather than later.
Previous put downs from Mayweather have covered everything from Pacquiao's dwindling PPV numbers to in-ring knock downs and the latest retort is likely to cover similar ground.
Rather than talk though what the boxing world really wants to see is a signed contract by both parties confirming a fight date.
At present it appears that a May 2nd bout in Las Vegas is most likely but issues concerning TV Network rights are holding up proceedings.
With only 10 days remaining until the rumored January deadline will pass, time is fast running out for the fight to come to fruition. Lets just hope all the hype this time leads to action.
